FP's New Leader

With this issue, Scott Wenger takes the reins of Financial Planning. He joins our team as Editor-in-Chief of the magazine and Editorial Director of the Investment Advisory Group, comprised of Financial Planning, On Wall Street and Bank Investment Consultant.

Scott is a talented journalist who, during his 26-year-career, has reported, edited or managed editorial teams at some of the nation's top media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, The Hartford Courant, Dow Jones News Service, CNBC, CNN and, most recently, the New York Daily News. Wenger spent some 13 years at the News, where he most recently was Managing Editor/Money & Business, overseeing business content and the personal finance section, Your Money. Wenger also created and moderated the Daily News' Small Biz: Big Impact Conference series and worked to help the paper upgrade its website with interactive graphics and video. Previously, he served as Deputy National/Foreign Editor, authoring an award-winning, weeklong series on China's economic expansion. Before then, as Deputy Metro Editor, he focused on daily and investigative content in the aftermath of the 2001 terrorist attacks. He initially joined the News as Business Editor, leading a big expansion in coverage.

Among his editorial achievements: a George Polk Award for local reporting and an Institute on Political Journalism award for excellence in economic reporting. Outside of journalism, Wenger worked as a healthcare analyst and was a registered securities representative at Alex. Brown & Sons in the 1990s. He earned his bachelor's degree from New York University and entered into graduate studies in law and public policy at Trinity College.

"We are excited to have Scott join our team," says Bruce Morris, executive vice president and managing director, Professional Services and Technology Groups, at SourceMedia. "His experience will elevate our brands and their respective print and online content to new levels. Also, his past experience on Wall Street will offer our readers insight from someone who has, metaphorically, walked miles in their shoes."

Financial Planning is in the hands of an extremely capable and creative editor who will build quickly on the strong foundation established by former Editor-in-Chief Marion Asnes, who left for an executive position with a leading wealth management products and services firm. We're grateful to Asnes for her fine stewardship and wish her the best. During her tenure, Financial Planning solidified its position as the nation's No. 1 publication for investment advisors.

But Scott has no intention of resting on the publication's laurels. He's committed to giving you, our readers, the news, analysis and insight you need to be successful-be it in print, online or at live events. And he'd love to hear your comments and ideas. So drop him a line at scott.wenger@sourcemedia.com.
