Hewitt Chief Executive Gifford to Retire

Hewitt Associates has just announced that its chief executive officer will retire in December and that the president of its core business has resigned.

Dale L. Gifford, 56, who has been CEO of the Lincolnshire, Ill., company since 1992, is to retire as chairman and chief executive officer at yearend. Bryan J. Doyle, 45, the president of Hewitt's human resources outsourcing business, resigned his posts with the company and its board of directors to pursue other opportunities, the company said.

Hewitt also announced that Julie S. Gordon, its chief business excellence officer and a member of its board of directors since 2000, has become acting president of the human resources outsourcing business. The company's board said it is beginning an external search for a successor to Gifford.

A Hewitt spokeswoman said Gifford's retirement and Doyle's resignation are in no way connected.

Hewitt has been the largest human resources outsourcing company since October 2004 when it completed its purchase of Exult, an Irvine, Calif., provider of human resources business process outsourcing. It controls 35% of the outsourcing market, according to Technology Partners International.
