LPL Financial advisor arrested, charged in fatal hit-and-run

A financial advisor registered with LPL Financial has been arrested and accused of fatally striking a pedestrian and then fleeing the scene on foot, leaving his wife, also injured, and the victim behind.

The advisor, Timothy Hamano, 64, of Piedmont, California, has been charged with two counts of a felony hit-and-run involving injury or death and a singular count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. He will be arraigned July 28, according to court documents seen byFinancial Planning.

Hamano was seen driving his car on Park Boulevard in Oakland, California, on May 9 around 5:15 p.m. when he allegedly hit a pedestrian who was standing on the sidewalk. The pedestrian, later identified as 41-year-old Gregory Turnage Jr., was seriously injured and later died at an area hospital, the East Bay Times reported.

Turnage was killed three blocks from home while out on his daily walk, his partner Angie Brey wrote on Facebook.

Hamano then fled on foot, leaving Turnage and his own wife, who was a passenger in his car, at the scene.

Hamano’s wife told police her husband had been drinking prior to the collision, but by the time Hamano was arrested, officers were unable to perform a sobriety test, court documents showed.

Hamano turned himself in to authorities the day after the deadly accident.

It’s unclear what type of sentence Hamano will face, though Brey wrote he could get anywhere from probation to a maximum of 12 years. It’s her fear Hamano will “slip through the cracks and avoid any real accountability for what he’s done and all the damage he’s caused.”

Hamano has 40 years of experience in wealth management. He doesn’t have any disclosures on his BrokerCheck record. Neither LPL nor his firm, San Francisco-based Hamano & Associates, responded to a request for comment.
