MFEA’s New Group Focuses on Product Development

The MFEA launched a new group within its executive council: the Product Management Council (PMC).

The PMC, which consists of 50 people, is led by the following Steering Committee: Doug Beck, president of DWS Funds, Head of Product Management—Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management; Lori Heinel, eenior vice president & Chief Investment Strategist—OppenheimerFunds; John Sturiale, vice president—Charles Schwab Investment Management; and Chris Thompson, Head of Intermediary Distribution, Product & Marketing—Columbia Management Investment Advisers.

“Over the past several years, trends have emerged that have placed significant demands on resources and decision-making related to mutual fund product," said Brian Smith, senior director at the MFEA. "The Product Management Council provides a forum for senior product executives to explore this critical issue and the opportunities, strategies and challenges related to it.”

Smith told Money Management Executive that venues for future PMC meetings will include roundtables, conferences, webinars and surveys. He said the ultimate goal of the new council is “To help the industry effectively develop solutions-based investment products in a timely-manner.”
