More Fund Companies Offering Annuities

Mutual fund companies are increasingly rolling out annuities and other retirement income products, competing head-to-head with insurance companies, the International Herald Tribune reports.

“The struggle for Boomer dollars is one of the great battlefields in the financial sector,” said Olivia Mitchell, who teaches about employee benefit plans and insurance at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. “And the battle royal is between insurers and mutual fund companies.”
