Raymond James picks up a $500M team from BB&T

Raymond James added a trio of advisors managing more than $500 million in client assets to its employee advisor channel, according to the firm.

The St. Augustine, Florida-based team, previously with BB&T Securities, includes advisors Chuck Crist, Chuck Gillingham and Ryan H. Jones, the firm says. Operating as Veritas Wealth Management of Raymond James, the group will specialize in high-net-worth families, business owners, executives and foundations.

“The technology and support at Raymond James will enable us to give our clients even better service and more in-depth financial plans,” Chuck Crist said in a statement following the move.

Both Crist and Gillingham started their careers with Dean Witter Reynolds in 1996, according to FINRA BrokerCheck records. Crist then spent two years at First Union Brokerage Services before starting a 13-year stint at Wells Fargo Advisors in 2000. Gillingham also worked at First Union for two years after Dean Witter, then moved to Wachovia Securities before rejoining Crist at Wells Fargo Advisors in 2003. The two had been with BB&T since 2014.

Jones has worked alongside Crist and Gillingham since joining Wells Fargo Advisors in 2002. He started his career with First Union in 1997, records show. After moving from Hold Brothers On-Line Investment Services to Dean Witter Reynolds in 1999, Jones took a job with Banc of America Investment Services. He later joined Stephens Inc. and Salomon Smith Barney in 2001.

The firm’s North Florida complex is led by Gregg W. Stupinski.

Raymond James ended 2020 with its biggest recruit of that year, spiriting away Campbell Johnson McGiboney Wealth, a team of Franklin, Tennessee-based advisors from Morgan Stanley managing $1.1 billion.

LPL Financial and indie rivals like Raymond James, Wells Fargo FiNet and Kestra Financial completed at least 17 recruiting grabs of $800 million or more this year.
