William Blair Investment Management has hired Patrick J. Sheppard as chief operating officer. He comes to the firm from The Boston Company Asset Management, where he held the same title.

“Patrick will be an instrumental member of our leadership team,” said Michelle Seitz, head of investment management and to whom Sheppard now reports. “He will have direct responsibility for our business infrastructure activities and work closely with me and others on strategic business issues. He brings extensive operational and finance expertise and appreciates the culture that has been cultivated by our private ownership.”

Before joining The Boston Company, Sheppard held various senior management roles at Scudder Kemper Investments and Scudder, Stevens  & Clark.
