Stocks Rally on Upbeat Economic Data, Euro Resurgence

The bulls firmly regained control Thursday, pushing the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 123.13 points to 12,904.08 after a barrage of positive economic reports hit the wire as well as news that eurozone central banks have agreed to exchange their existing Greek bonds for new securities.

The Nasdaq rallied up 44 points to finish at 2,959.85 while the S&P 500 added 14.81 points to close at 1,358.04.

The Dow is up 5.6% for the year.

Investors were especially encouraged by a surprising decline in weekly jobless claims, down 13,000, to a seasonally adjusted total of 348,000, according to the Labor Department. That marks the lowest level nearly four years and was much better than 365,000 claim most economists had forecast.

Also, the Producer Price Index posted its largest gain in six months, jumping 0.4% in January, after increasing 0.3%  in December.
