Ameriprise Recruits LPL Advisor With $165M in AUM

An independent advisor managing $165 million in assets has left LPL Financial to join Ameriprise as an employee advisor, according to a firm spokeswoman.

Advisor Charles Alexander Smith joined Ameriprise Advisor Group's office in Mesa, Ariz., where he will report to branch manager Philip Waxelbaum, who in turn reports to Jeremy Straub, Southwest regional vice president.

Smith started his career in 2000, according to FINRA records. His former practice, based in Gilbert, Ariz., was called Academy Advisors. Smith had been affiliated with LPL Financial since 2007.

Ameriprise last announced new recruits in September, when the Minneapolis-based firm added advisors managing more than $500 million in assets. At that time another independent advisor joined Ameriprise's employee channel. John Ledford left CommonWealth, where he managed $138 million in assets, to join Ameriprise's Orlando, Fla., office.
