Calamos Preps Long/Short Mutual Fund

Naperville. IL-based Calamos Investments is prepping its Long/Short Fund to launch in the next month or so.

According to a regulatory filing, the fund will take long and short positions in large and mid-cap U.S. companies. It is managed by John Calamos, chief executive officer, Gary Black, executive vice president and Brendan Maher, senior vice president.

Calamos hired Black last August and acquired his hedge fund, Black Capital, to beef up its alternative portfolio. The firm’s lone alternative fund is the Market Neutral Income Fund, which mainly bets on convertible securities.

A spokesperson for Calamos declined to comment on the firm’s latest offering.
