Matthews Launches UCITS Umbrella Fund in Luxembourg

Matthews International Capital Management has launched an umbrella UCITS in Luxembourg comprised of three Asia-focused funds: Asia Dividend Fund, Pacific Tiger Fund and China Fund. It is the first time investors outside of the U.S. have had access to Matthews funds.

“We are pleased to be able to address the growing interest from investors globally in our Asia investment strategies and expertise,” said William J. Hackett, chief executive officer of Matthews. “Providing our existing strategies as UCITS represents an important milestone in expanding our client base across multiple regions.”

The same U.S. team that manages the funds domestically will manage the new European funds.

In conjunction with this new global launch, Matthews has appointed Jonathan Schuman head of global business development and James Campion head of Asia business development. Schuman comes to the firm from PineBridge Investments in Tokyo, where he was a managing director. Campion comes to Matthews from Threadneedle Portfolio Services, where he was head of Asia distribution.

“Matthews has been at the forefront of providing investors with a broad range of choices for building a global portfolio that includes exposure to Asia,” Schuman said. “I am thrilled to be a part of the team that will bring Matthews’ distinctive investment approach to global investors who will benefit from our long-term focus on Asia.”
