Stifel snatches $298M advisors in ongoing hiring spree

Stifel recruited three advisors overseeing $298 million from three rivals, the company said.

The moves follow an ongoing recruiting binge. Last month, the regional broker-dealer poached five teams in four weeks, bringing in advisors from firms such as Merrill Lynch, Wells Fargo, Raymond James and Janney Montgomery Scott. Those hires managed $2.6 billion at their previous employers.

The firm’s latest recruits are advisors Robert Rix, Sean Westbrook and Jay Masiltak who join Stifel in Grand Rapids, Michigan; Pueblo, Colorado; and Pittsburgh, respectively.

Rix quit Oppenheimer & Co. after 13 years at the regional BD, according to FINRA BrokerCheck records. He managed $63 million in client assets, according to Stifel.

Westbrook broke away from Advisor Group subsidiary FSC Securities Corporation where he managed $55 million in client assets. He has 12 years of industry experience, according to BrokerCheck.

Mastilak makes the biggest move, cutting ties with Wells Fargo, where she managed approximately $180 million in client assets. She spent 12 of her 36 years in the business at Wells Fargo, according to BrokerCheck.

Mastilak is the second loss the wirehouse has suffered at the hands of the regional broker-dealer in the last two weeks, following the addition of $100 million advisor Christopher Patterson who joined the firm at their Geneva, Illinois, location in late June.

Spokeswomen from Wells Fargo and Oppenheimer declined to comment. A spokesman for FSC Securities could not be reached.
