Marsden is a longtime veteran of the wirehouse. He started his career as a financial advisor at the firm in 1993, later moving into management. Most recently, Marsden was a Merrill Lynch Wealth Management market executive in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

He reports to Don Plaus, head of Merrill Private Wealth Management, International and Institutional. In his new role, Marsden will oversee private wealth advisors in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota and Missouri.

“Nathan’s experience, including holding leadership roles throughout the firm and building a successful practice as an advisor, makes him ideal to lead the mid-America region,” Plaus said in a statement.

Marsden replaces Brett Thelander, who recently left the firm after 27 years. Last month, AdvisorHub reported that Thelander was set to join Rockefeller Capital Management, a boutique wealth manager, after a garden leave period.
