$250M RBC adviser jumps to Raymond James’ Alex. Brown

An adviser managing $250 million in client assets left RBC Wealth Management to join the Alex. Brown division of Raymond James, the firm said.

Adviser Craig Decker, who generated $1.3 million in annual fees and commissions while at RBC, will reopen an old Alex. Brown office in Annapolis, Maryland in early 2017, according to a spokeswoman. He is currently based in Baltimore, where he will remain until the new office opens.

Decker is the first adviser Raymond James has recruited for Alex. Brown since it acquired the wealth management unit from Deutsche Bank in September. The St. Petersburg, Florida-based regional firm gained 193 advisers from that acquisition.

Along with assistant vice president and associate Emma Sterling, Decker is operating under the name Decker Global Wealth Group. They report to Marcus Aiello, Alex. Brown’s regional executive for Baltimore and Washington, a spokeswoman said.

Decker is no stranger to the Alex. Brown brand. He started his career there in 1997 when the two-centuries-old investment bank was acquired by Bankers Trust. Deutsche Bank bought the firm two years later to form its U.S. Private Client Services unit.

"Returning to Alex. Brown has been wonderful. It reminds me of my early years here," Decker said.

Decker says he began looking into other firms last year, and was drawn to Raymond James and Alex. Brown for the firm’s investment products, resources and technology.

"I cannot wait to reopen the Annapolis office, and help the division expand with both new clients and advisers," Decker added.

Decker left Alex. Brown in 1999 for Tucker Anthony, an independent brokerage in Boston, FINRA BrokerCheck records show. He transitioned to RBC three years later when the Canadian bank bought Tucker. Decker has 19 years of total industry experience.

A spokeswoman for RBC declined to comment.
